Monday’s edition of the Pat McAfee Show momentarily went off the rails after NFL insider Adam Schefter tweeted breaking news while live on air.
As McAfee attempted to segway from a discussion surrounding Aaron Rodgers — who’s yet to give the Pittsburgh Steelers an answer regarding his status for the 2026 season — Schefter became distracted by a message that came across his phone.
“Let’s talk about another, or more free agents alongside Aaron Rodgers,” McAfee began before noticing that Schefter was feverishly typing on his phone. “Are you breaking news right now?” The ESPN pundit confirmed he had some juicy information to share, replying: “Yeah, we’re gonna have some news for you in a matter of moments.”

McAfee encouraged Schefter to dot the i's and cross the t's in his post, joking: “Check your spelling. Spaces, period. Good photo usage as well.
“Every once in a while we like seeing what photo you decide to go with. Is it a cheeky happy one or is it more of an angry one? Is he focused? All those things.”
As the anticipation dragged on, however, McAfee pressed Schefter to hurry up. “What is it, Schefty? What’s your words per minute, too, let's chat about it,” he added.
“Well, [he’s] also taking his time. Sweet a-- time. I mean, don’t you worry about anything else going one, maybe somebody else breaking the news.”

When asked what was taking him so long, Schefter clapped back: “We’ll post it as we say it, basically. I’m gonna do it without the picture because I don’t have time to get the picture for you. Hold on, I’m getting it formatted. I’m writing it up, getting it formatted.”
Following a minute-long wait, Schefter finally shared that the Steelers and veteran kicker Chris Boswell agreed to terms on a four-year, $28 million contract. With an average annual value (AAV) of $7 million, the 35-year-old is now tied with Dallas Cowboys' Brandon Aubrey as the highest-paid kicker in NFL history.
“Brandon Aubrey has obviously been incredible,” McAfee said upon learning the news. “So much fun to watch, obviously. As a ball-kicking person myself, I enjoy watching him do his job.
“Him getting paid what he got paid certainly made Boswell probably excited as these negotiations were taking place, because Bos has missed three kicks in like 10 years.”

Over an 11-season career in the NFL, Boswell has made 299-of-341 field goal attempts (87.7 percent) and 353-of-369 extra point attempts (95.7 percent). During the 2025 campaign, he connected on 27-of-32 field goal attempts while missing just one point-after try.
“When he misses a kick, it's big news,” McAfee said of Boswell. “Whenever a kicker gets to the point where, when he misses, it is the headline, it is the conversation, it's like, ‘That's a really good kicker.’

“If [Adam] Vinatieri was to miss a kick, it would be like, ‘Vinatieri's losing it. He missed a kick.’ Justin Tucker got like that for a while. Bos is like that, especially in Pittsburgh.
“In Pittsburgh, it's not an easy town to kick in. The people are ready for you to not be the kicker anymore if you're missing kicks, very loudly, because they played high school football. So you're just a kicker, even though you're in the NFL.”
