Broncos sign former Browns receiver Mike Woods II after minicamp tryout

The Denver Broncos’ wide receiver room got a little more crowded following this weekend’s rookie minicamp.

The 6-foot-1, 204-pound receiver was selected by the Cleveland Browns in the sixth round (202nd overall) of the 2022 NFL draft. Woods spent three seasons at the University of Arkansas before transferring to the University of Oklahoma for his senior season.

As a rookie in Cleveland, Woods appeared in 10 games, recording five receptions for 45 yards while also contributing on special teams. However, his career hit a major setback in 2023 when he ruptured his Achilles tendon during an independent workout with then-new Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson, causing him to miss the entire season.

Later that year, Woods was suspended six games by the NFL for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. Specific details surrounding the suspension were never publicly released, but it was not Woods’ first off-field issue. During his freshman year at Arkansas in 2018, Woods was arrested and charged with driving under the influence before accepting a plea to reckless driving.

Woods returned to the field in 2024, appearing in three games for Cleveland before being waived in July 2025. He later signed with the Green Bay Packers’ practice squad in November after injuries to Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks and others thinned the receiver room. Woods never appeared in a game for the Packers and was released a month later.

Broncos insider Mike Klis of 9NEWS reported that Woods “had a successful pro tryout during rookie minicamp this weekend.”

The move adds another depth piece to a Broncos receiver group that continues to evolve heading into training camp. While Woods faces an uphill battle to make the final roster, Denver clearly saw enough during minicamp to give the former draft pick another NFL opportunity.
