Henry Ruggs III appears before Nevada parole board panel

LAS VEGAS (KSNV) — Former NFL player Henry Ruggs III, convicted for his role in a deadly 2021 crash in Las Vegas, appeared before a Nevada parole board panel on Monday.

Ruggs, now 27, spoke remotely from the Northern Nevada Correctional Center in Carson City, where he is being held, to a panel in Las Vegas, according to the Review-Journal.

Any recommendation by the panel would go to the full seven-member Board of Parole Commissioners. At least four commissioners would need to vote in favor to approve parole.

The result of Monday's hearing will be made public on June 14, according to the board.

Ruggs pleaded guilty to driving drunk at 156 miles per hour and causing a fiery crash that killed 23-year-old Tina Tintor and her dog, Max, in 2021.

He was in his second season as a wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders at the time of the collision.

He was first incarcerated at High Desert State Prison before he was moved to transitional housing in Las Vegas. **[Prison officials transferred him](https://news3lv.com/news/local/former-nfl-player-henry-ruggs-moved-to-medium-security-prison-in-nevada#)** to Northern Nevada Correctional Center in December last year.

At the time, the Department of Corrections did not disclose a reason for the transfer, but noted that inmates who commit infractions at lower custody levels can be reclassified to higher security depending on the severity of the violation.

In a statement provided to News 3 on Monday, Ruggs' attorneys David Chesnoff and Richard Schonfeld said Ruggs shared deep remorse for Tintor's death:

> "While in custody Henry completed his college credits and graduated from the University of Alabam.

> "We were able to provide the board with substantial evidence of his efforts to educate others about making the right choices," the attorneys said. "He has assisted the Department of Corrections by speaking to fellow prisoners, former inmates through Hope for Prisoners and a New York State law-enforcement program targeting young people on the dangers of driving and drinking.

> "We believe Henry will continue to give back to the community and will lead a very productive life."
