Tyler Shough's development could be fast tracked by Saints' draft sleeper

If ESPN's Field Yates is correct about Jeremiah Wright making an instant impact, Kellen Moore may have set up New Orleans Saints for a new era of offensive explosion. His success would completely fortify the front line in front of Tyler Shough and add another benefit to Shough's development.

The Saints invested in offensive tackle in back to back drafts and walked away with two players who can protect the edges. This offseason, the Saints signed David Edwards to a long-term contract. Erik McCoy is one of the best at his position when healthy. His health the true question on this unit. It would be the only question if Wright makes the impact Yates says.

There's been a lot of attention being paid to the wide receivers added in the draft or Travis Etienne in free agency. None of it matters without the right front line.

Shough was regularly on the move during his rookie season. His ability to improv and perform in the face of pressure was inspiring. Getting used to the pressure, however, could lead to Shough getting used to rushing through the process. Sometimes getting too used to distress causes bad habits. Keeping him protected will lead to Shough showing more within structure and develop better.

Cesar Ruiz may have something to say about the Jeremiah Wright Hype Train

Yates highlighted Wright's nasty attitude and power in the run game. These are traits that everyone likes in their offensive linemen. The Saints drafted him because of the traits. That isn't for debate today. The question becomes when does he see the field.

Before Wright sees his ability translate to the league, he'll have to go through Cesar Ruiz. He may not be a fan favorite, but Ruiz is no pushover. That's what makes Yates' statement such a bold proclamation. Wright isn't guaranteed to see a single start, yet alone an instant impact.

Yates putting Wright as an instant impact player tells you what he thinks about Ruiz. He clearly believes Wright vs. Ruiz is a training camp battle Wright can win.

Ruiz comes into the season motivated, and picking what appears to be his eventual replacement should only add fuel to the internal fire. After Mickey Loomis calling him out, Ruiz is clearly on a short leash. That leaves room for Wright to step in at any time.
