How does Chargers signing David Njoku impact Oronde Gadsden?

The Los Angeles Chargers finally got Justin Herbert another weapon, as the franchise has signed veteran tight end David Njoku.

It is a one-year deal worth up to $8 million per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.

Having spent nine seasons with the Cleveland Browns, Njoku now comes to L.A. looking to revitalize his career, but he does have competition in the form of up-and-coming tight end Oronde Gadsden.

Oronde rose to prominence last season, posting 664 yards in his rookie year, and is viewed as the long-term solution at the position.

But now he has Njoku coming in to help settle the tight end room.

Is Gadsden impacted by Njoku arrival?

Just my two cents, but I don't think so.

This move could simply be insurance for Oronde, as entering his second season with no other receiving tight end on the roster, he has a lot of pressure on his shoulders to deliver.

Njoku helps relieve some of that, plus bringing in some veteran leadership, not to mention his ability as a receiving threat, is something Mike McDaniel will utilize.

Gadsden still needs the majority of starting reps in 2026 to help advance his development, but Njoku will be there as well, helping push and guide the young tight end.

I don't see any downside to the Njoku move as it pertains to Gadsden in 2026. It's all good here.
