Raiders release legend’s son to clear roster spot for LB Cameron McGrone

The Las Vegas Raiders continue to add to their linebacking corps, adding veteran Cameron McGrone via free agency on Monday.

McGrone has four tackles on defense and nine on special teams in 27 games as a pro between the New England Patriots, Indianapolis Colts and Cleveland Browns.

He was a fifth-round pick out of New England in 2021 out of Michigan, where he played in 17 games with 91 tackles and three sacks.

McGrone is coming off an Achilles injury that ended his season with the Browns in November. He was subsequently released from the practice squad injured list in December.

The Raiders, who made a splash in free agency by signing linebackers Nakobe Dean and Quay Walker, waived wide receiver Brenden Rice to clear a roster spot for McGrone.

Rice, the son of Hall of Fame receiver and former Raiders star Jerry Rice, was signed to the practice squad last year and did not appear in a game.

The seventh-round pick of the Chargers in 2024 appeared in three games for Los Angeles, but does not have an NFL reception.
