TheMiami Dolphins chose to sign former Green Bay Packers quarterback Malik Willis after cutting ties with Tua Tagovailoa. Moreover, Miami chose not to draft a signal-caller in the 2026 NFL Draft, despite its ample draft picks.

As a result, Miami looks to have opted to run with Willis and then make a decision on the QB position next season. Nonetheless, that will all depend on whether Willis doesn’t perform as a QB1.

Dolphins general manager Jon-Eric Sullivan could be in the market for a long-term signal-caller next year if the Willis situation doesn’t work out. However, Miami could bring in a young QB this year as Texas Tech Red Raiders quarterback Brendan Sorsby could enter the NFL’s supplemental draft.

On May 11, NBC Sports NFL analyst Chris Simms shared whether a team should use a supplemental draft pick on Sorsby if he enters.

“I think [Sorsby entering the supplemental is] headed that way as well,”Simms said on “Chris Simms Unbuttoned.” “Now, does a team really want to take that risk of throwing a first-round pick? No way. And I’m not sure a second round would happen either.

“I think first and second rounds are just too valuable, and there’s just not enough out there to say, ‘Oh, I definitely want that guy,‘ or ‘We’re ready to make him the future here and waste next year’s first- or second-round pick by taking him in the supplemental.‘ So, yeah, I’m with you. I think the door opens in the third round somewhere.”

Could Brendan Sorsby Be a Promising Prospect?

Moreover, co-host Connor Rogers believes Sorsby will enter the supplemental draft, and any team that selects him will have an intriguing QB prospect.

“I have a feeling when we come back in July, this will be a way bigger story,“ Rogers said. “This is all me guessing. I think he’ll be in the supplemental draft. I think somebody will use a third- or fourth-round pick on him, and he will be in an NFL training camp with a lot of eyeballs on him. He’s not ready to play. But somebody will hope he’s their future.”

Insider Sees Dolphins as Landing Spot for Brendan Sorsby

The reason the Dolphins are in the speculation is due to Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer, who believes the Dolphins would be among the four teams most likely to pursue Sorsby in the NFL Supplemental Draft if the quarterbackis banned from college football amid his gambling scandal.

“I have four teams here that I think kept their powder dry for the 2027 draft: The Jets, the Cardinals, the Browns, and the Dolphins,“Breer said during a May 7 appearance on the “Rich Eisen Show.”“I think all four of those teams kicked the can down the road at various levels.

“Obviously, the Jets and the Dolphins went and got Malik Willis. They’ve all kind of patched the position together and basically said they don’t think there’s somebody worthy of taking that high in 2026.

“So they’re allowing themselves the opportunity to extend this out and get to 2027 and take one there. What happens if one of those teams says Brendan Sorsby is as good as any of the kids coming out next year? We’ll throw a second-round pick at it.”
