The Los Angeles Chargers boosted the weaponry for 2026 by signing David Njoku Sunday. LA lands a past Pro Bowl tight end in signing him to an $8 million deal. Head coach Jim Harbaugh plus incoming offensive coordinator Mike McDaniel gain an experience and valuable TE here.
They're not the only Bolts coaches intrigued by the presence of the former Cleveland Browns star. Tight ends coach Chandler Henley told Chargers insider for The Athletic Daniel Popper what he's banking on.

The veteran coach added Njoku won't need to endure a steep learning curve either adjusting to LA.

“He’s going to be able to fit in right away and really in all schemes, both run and pass,” Henley added.
Njoku arrives to expand the offense and give the Chargers a missing element out of the TE spot. The Chargers have lacked a field stretching TE since the days of Antonio Gates. Granted rookie Oronde Gadsden flashed potential last season, catching 49 passes with 664 yards and scoring three touchdowns. Charlie Kolar also signed with the Chargers on March 9 to a three-year deal.
But McDaniel is scrapping the downhill, physical attack that past Harbaugh teams relied on. The former Miami Dolphins head coach is bringing an exotic zone read offense. One that aims to hit teams with misdirection runs and more play action. Njoku enters the picture to open up the vertical lanes for the wide receivers while adding a needed red zone target for All-Pro quarterback Justin Herbert.
