Chargers TE shares an amazing analogy on developing love for blocking

It looks like the Los Angeles Chargers have a nice duo in the coaching staff. And Mike McDaniel likes having Justin Herbert around. Also, Jim Harbaugh will like his tight end sharing an amazing analogy about developing his love for blocking, according to a post on X by Daniel Popper.

“New #Chargers TE Charlie Kolar compared learning to love blocking to learning to love crème brûlée. Said he did not eat crème brûlée before meeting his wife. Now he loves it. ‘There will always be a place for physicality in this game,’ ” Kolar said.

Kolar spent his first four seasons with the Ravens after getting selected in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. The Chargers signed him to a three-year, $24.3 million contract.

Who doesn’t like a good blocking tight end? But Harbaugh prioritizes the efficiency of the ground game to the point that Kolar made a ton of sense. Kolar is strong where he needs to be, according to The Athletic.

“The final step to ensuring the outside zone run works is a strong blocking tight end, and they got exactly that with Charlie Kolar,” Ted Nguyen wrote. “The Chargers have second-year tight end Oronde Gadsden Jr., who showed a lot of promise as an explosive pass catcher, but Kolar gives them a strong point-of-attack blocker who will likely start in their 21 personnel packages (two backs, one tight end, two receivers).

“They’ll also have the ability to get into 12 personnel and create mismatches for Gadsden with play-action. Kolar was the final piece in the Chargers’ run game rebuild. I’d be shocked if they weren’t top-10 in rushing efficiency and explosiveness next season, something Justin Herbert has never had.”

If the Chargers keep the right players healthy, they could make serious noise in the upper-level crowded AFC.
