Vikings Could See Drama Building in WR Room

After declining an offer from the San Francisco 49ers that would have paid him $17 million, veteran wide receiver Jauan Jennings bet on himself in free agency.

The market was less than what Jennings was offered by the 49ers. He signed a one-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings with a base salary of $8 million, which could go up to as much as $13 million with incentives.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated suggested that the Vikings were ripe to have some drama with their receiving corps this season. Jordan Addison, a first-round pick in 2023, will be playing for a new deal in 2027. Jennings will be playing for a new deal in the offseason.

“Jauan Jennings's signing in Minnesota is interesting, in that he took way less than he was shooting for,” Breer wrote. “After all, money was what ultimately led to him becoming disgruntled in leaving San Francisco.

“So will he be happy with so many mouths to feed in the Vikings' offense, and another receiver, Jordan Addison, playing for a contract? We'll see. It's a golden opportunity for him to turn perception a bit, if he can fit in.”

The Vikings' No. 1 wide receiver is Justin Jefferson.

Whoever wins the quarterback battle between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy will need to target Jefferson as much as possible to win games. The not-so-friendly quarterback battle between Murray and McCarthy could be even more interesting with a crop of receivers that want their touches.

Jennings or Addison would understandably feel left out if they fell to the No. 3 option in Minnesota. It’s a dynamic that head coach Kevin O’Connell will have to consider when cooking up his game plan for the week.

Jennings saw increased production during his final two seasons in San Francisco. He recorded a career-high nine touchdowns in 2025.
