Pro Football Hall-of-Famer and former Baltimore Ravens star Ray Lewis spoke at North Carolina Central's Spring Commencement on Saturday and brought the life knowledge that powered his career in the NFL. He first employed the Eagle graduates that commencement was just the beginning of their story.
“I need you to understand that today is not the end of a journey. This is not the finish line. This is the doorway. Most people get here and think they’ve arrived, but you’ve only just earned the right to go to work.”
He then urged the graduates to find focus in a world where there are several things competing for their attention.

“The world wants your attention the second you wake up. Stop grabbing your phone and scrolling through other people's lives and instead pick up a Bible or a book. Train your mind before the world touches it. If you don't set your own identity in the morning, the world will give you a fake one by noon.”
Lewis used his life story before fame and football to highlight how the graduates can write their own story, no matter what they've been through.
“I didn't have a silver spoon. I walked into the world with twenty dollars worth of food stamps, no father in the house, no crowd cheering for me, and no guarantees. But I had a decision. And a decision is the most powerful thing a human being owns. You have your degree now, but do you have your decision?”
