Alexander Isak of Liverpool warms up with Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirtz and Milos Kerkez prior to the UEFA Champions League 2025/26 Quarter-Final Second Leg match between Liverpool FC and Paris Saint-Germain FC at Anfield on April 14, 2026 in Liverpool, England

Liverpool has been told it needs spend big again this summer, with Reds hero John Aldridge insisting at least four new signings should be made.

The club faces a big summer as what has been a dismal season draws to a close. With just two games remaining, Liverpool should secure Champions League qualification, which could prove crucial during the transfer window.

Although pressure continues to grow on him, Arne Slot has already promised “100 percent” that his side will be a much different proposition next season, with the Liverpool boss teasing more transfer business after last year’s record-breaking spending spree.

It’s already been suggested that a similar window this year is unlikely after just over $600 million was spent on the likes of Alexander Isak and Florian Wirtz. The Reds though will undoubtedly be busy.

Club legends Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are already confirmed to be leaving, while there is speculation on the future of Alisson Becker. Meanwhile, Jeremy Jacquet will complete his move to Anfield, while plenty of other big names are being linked, with wingers and midfielders looking likely to be the priority.

With that in mind, Aldridge is expecting plenty more money to be thrown around - and he insists the club can go big again.

“The net spend is not what people think, it was £200 million and not £400 million,” Aldridge told BettingLounge. “It's quite laughable when you see it at £400M. So, that was the case from last year.

“Do we need to do the same again? Yes, absolutely. When Mo Salah leaves the club, Andy Robertson leaves the club, we've got problems in other areas. Absolutely.

“I know it's really tough to replace players like them, especially Salah, goals-wise and creativity-wise. So you've got to go out and do your due diligence and make sure you get the right fit. And it doesn't matter what it costs, Liverpool can afford it.

“They're one of the richest clubs in the world, the biggest clubs in the world. And they showed last year with Isak, and I'm there to this day, that the owners will go and get it if it's the right business. So whoever fits the bill, whatever it is, we've got to go and get them.

“Also, for me, a holding midfield player. It depends what happens with Ibrahima Konate, who's had a really poor season. If he stays and they believe in him, you've got him and Virgil van Dijk and two young upcoming center-halves, Giovanni Leoni and Jeremy Jacquet.

“Whether they think that'll be enough, we will have to see. So we need someone who can help them. Ryan Gravenberch is good, decent, but it's not his job, it's not his natural game.

“We've tried players in that position and we've been caught out too many times. So for me, you need a world-class holding midfielder.

“We need at least three top-class players. And I think to make the squad better than it was last year, I'd go four.”

Liverpool.com says: It’s hard to argue with Aldridge there. Based on what we’ve seen this season, Liverpool will almost certainly have to go big again.

It might be too much to expect another window like last year, but ideally, two pacy wingers and a top-class midfielder are going to be needed at least. That’s not going to come cheaply.
