Arne Slot has promised fans they will see a much different Liverpool next season, and that could mean another big summer transfer window lies in wait at Anfield

The mood could not have shifted more for Liverpool over the past 12 months.
This time last year, the club and its fans were in party mode, having wrapped up the Premier League title and with the future looking bright under Arne Slot.
Now, those same people - including Slot - probably can’t wait to see the back of what has been a truly dismal season, with no trophies, a title defense that was over before Christmas, and barely securing a place in the Champions League. That is, assuming the Reds don’t completely throw that last one away over their final two games.

If you’re looking for any positives, the good news is that the situation can hardly get any worse. Then again, Chelsea and Tottenham fans might tell you otherwise.
Questions over Slot’s future are getting louder and louder, although Liverpool looks set to stick by its man, and he looks as though he’s already getting ready for what will be a big summer in the transfer window.
"Yeah, I do,” he said on Saturday when asked if he thinks he can win the fans back. “Not this season, by the way.

“This season they will have their opinion and it will not change but if we can have the summer that we are planning to have, I am 100 percent convinced we will be a different team next season than we are now.”
If nothing else, that promise should create some excitement for the transfer window, even if it does put a bit of pressure on FSG to back Slot with some more signings after last year’s record-breaking summer.
It’s unlikely we’ll see quite as much money spent this time around, although given what we’ve all seen this season, perhaps Liverpool won’t have much option but to go big again.
Goalkeepers
It looks as though there could be a big decision to make in goal. Although he has another year left, speculation is rife that Alisson Becker could be heading to Juventus.
There is certainly some logic to selling the Brazilian, given his injury problems and the fact he will be 34 this time next year. At the same time though, he is still one of the best goalkeepers in the world.
You doubt whether Liverpool would be able to get a big fee for Alisson at this stage, so keeping hold of him for one last year feels like it might be the right call, with Giorgi Mamardashvili waiting another year to step up.
Defense
There’s no doubt fresh blood will be needed, and we do of course know at least one new face will be arriving soon, with Jeremy Jacquet completing his transfer from Rennes.

The hope is that he will be added to the defensive options alongside Ibrahima Konate, rather than replacing him outright, although the 20-year-old should be viewed as a real option to start alongside Virgil van Dijk next season.
With Andy Robertson departing, Milos Kerkez will be the outright first-choice at left-back, leaving Conor Bradley and Jeremie Frimpong to battle it out on the right. Hopefully the former can put his injury problems firmly behind him and finally nail down that spot.
Midfield
It’s becoming increasingly clear that Liverpool needs to make some additions in the engine room. Although Dominik Szoboszlai has been the standout player this season, his fellow midfielders have not been anywhere near the same level.
A proper No.6, who could free the likes of Szoboszlai and Florian Wirtz up a bit more, should be the order. Given there seems to be a mass exodus at Crystal Palace occurring, Liverpool should be taking a serious look at Adam Wharton for that role.
No doubt he will be expensive, and the Reds have of course had bad experiences trying to buy from Palace, but the 22-year-old could be the perfect addition to get the midfield running smoothly again.

Attack
This is the big one. Mohamed Salah is leaving, Federico Chiesa is probably following him, and Hugo Ekitike is going to miss the start of next season.
Liverpool needs to add some pace, with Luis Diaz’s exit being felt more and more acutely with every game. At least one new winger is needed, and ideally two if it can be done.
According to The Times, there are a couple of names on the radar - Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola. Neither will be cheap, but both are young and have bags of potential, so if the money’s there, Liverpool should be willing to go big on both.
