A Liverpool move to sign Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is reportedly gaining traction amid rumours that Alisson Becker could leave the club this summer.
The Brazilian’s £66m arrival in 2018 marked the start of some of the best years in Liverpool’s vaunted history, but his departure couldn’t come at a worse time.
Liverpool are really struggling this season, which hasn’t been helped by Alisson’s injury woes.
However, with age not on his side, it’s no surprise to hear reports that the goalkeeper wants to begin a new experience elsewhere after winning all there is to win in his time at Anfield.
Liverpool could sign Emi Martinez to replace Alisson
According to claims from TEAMtalk and Graeme Bailey, Liverpool could sign Martinez this summer.

Bailey reports: “A potential Liverpool move for Aston Villa’s Emiliano Martinez is gaining serious momentum as the Reds continue assessing contingency plans should Alisson Becker leave for Juventus this summer.
“Martinez is once again attracting strong transfer interest ahead of the upcoming window, with Villa still needing to create financial flexibility within their squad structure. Martinez remains one of the club’s highest earners on a deal that runs until 2029, and his future is under serious consideration as Villa weigh up potential sales to balance spending plans.
“Sources state Villa have already started exploring possible replacements, and enquiries have been made over several goalkeeping options, including Manchester City shot-stopper James Trafford.
“Martinez’s situation continues to alert several major European clubs, and Liverpool are among those who have been made aware of his potential availability. The Argentina international is highly admired within Anfield recruitment circles and would be viewed as a serious option if Alisson departs.”
Replacing a 33-year-old with a 33-year-old is unlike FSG…
Given that both Alisson and Martinez are 33, it would be an odd move for FSG to make.
While Martinez has a much better injury record, it’s not as though the Argentine shot-stopper would be a long-term signing given his age.
Liverpool brought Giorgi Mamardashvili to the club this season, and his struggles have been well covered by journalists. Yet, it’s not really fair to judge him based on this season, given that Arne Slot’s entire team has regressed under his guidance this season.
