Joe Gomez has admitted that his Liverpool future is in question, saying that “anything can happen” in this summer’s transfer market.
Having arrived in 2015, Gomez is Liverpool’s longest-serving player, and has experienced the highest of highs as well as the lows dealt by injury.
With his contract to expire in 2027, the 28-year-old was asked by media, including the Independent, what the future holds for him.
“I think anything can happen. I don’t know is the honest answer,” Gomez said.

“I’ve only got a year left so I don’t know, but whatever is meant to be will be, I guess.
“But I’m so grateful to have had this time here at this club. I’ll always be grateful to have had 11 years at a place like this.
“All I can do is be thankful and we’ll see.”
Will Joe Gomez leave Liverpool this summer?

Last summer, AC Milan bid £13 million for Gomez and he was “ready to leave,” according to Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio,
However, the transfer fell through as Liverpool failed to sign Marc Guehi on deadline day.
Gomez has started 15 matches in all competitions this season, making 31 total appearances with 14 of those coming at right-back.
That is a big mark-up on last season’s tally of 17 appearances, but with only four more starts than in the 2024/25 campaign, Gomez has still struggled for regular game time.
A combination of injury problems and Arne Slot preferring Ibrahima Konate at centre-half has left Gomez’s future in doubt again.

Jeremy Jacquet will arrive this summer and Giovanni Leoni will return to fitness, significantly bolstering the Reds’ options at centre-half.
Like last summer, Gomez’s future could be decided by the movement of other players. Should Konate leave, it would surely increase Gomez’s chances of remaining on Merseyside.
Konate’s deal runs out this summer and, though he said an agreement was “close” in April, journalist David Ornstein has now told NBC:
“The situation is still at a stalemate and it’s not looking particularly positive.
“Although, until either side walks away, there is still hope of course that that could reach a positive conclusion for him to stay at Anfield.”
Whatever happens this summer, Gomez’s Liverpool career will be remembered as a successful one, but he will also rue the injuries that have hugely disrupted his time at Anfield.
