Man City in race to sign Brazilian full-back

Manchester City will hope to cut Arsenal’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to two points by beating Crystal Palace at The Etihad on Wednesday night.

Pep Guardiola’s side defeated Brentford 3-0 in their last outing on Saturday, but Arsenal’s controversial 1-0 win against West Ham United on Sunday restored the Gunners’ five-point advantage.

City do have a game-in-hand over their title rivals, though, and victory on Wednesday against the Eagles would at least put some pressure back on Arsenal.

Away from the action, it has emerged that Man City are one of a number of big European clubs chasing a Brazilian defender.

As reported by CaughtOffside, Man City have joined the race to sign full-back Wesley from Roma this summer.

It is claimed that several sides are interested in the 22-year-old, including Spanish giants Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Wesley has been in fine form for Roma this term, having joined the Italian outfit from Brazilian side Flamengo last summer.

The Brazilian has made 38 appearances across all competitions so far this season, scoring five times and registering two assists.

His impressive dosplays haven’t gone unnoticed, though, and the report suggests that the right-back could be at the centre of a transfer battle this summer.

Roma were said to have paid an initial fee of around £21 million to sign the defender last year, although the total price could have risen to £25 million.

The Serie A side could face a battle to keep hold of Wesley beyond this summer, though, with several of Europe’s biggest clubs circling.

Wesley signed a long-term deal when joining Roma last summer, however, and is therefore under contract in the Italian capital until the end of the 2029/30 campaign, which would put his current employers in a commanding position.
