Robert Sanchez says there’s one former Chelsea player he would love to bring back

Robert Sanchez has signaled exactly what he believes is missing from the current Chelsea dressing room, naming a former Blues icon as the one player he would drop into the present squad.

The current Chelsea squad is packed with potential, but the Blues lack the big-game mentality and leadership that defined previous eras.

This season, those cracks have been most visible in goal. Robert Sanchez has struggled to provide the stability a young defence needs, with several errors directly leading to dropped points.

He has shown flashes of quality, but his erratic form epitomises the squad’s wider issues: they have the skill to compete but lack the discipline to win.

Gone are the days of having reliable figures like John Terry and Thiago Silva to steady the ship.

Robert Sanchez thinks Didier Drogba is missing from this current Chelsea team

Speaking in a video on the Premier League YouTube channel, Robert Sanchez named the Chelsea legend he’d love to bring back to play in the current team as Didier Drogba.

Didier Drogba was the ultimate big-game player, scoring nine goals in ten finals and delivering Chelsea’s first Champions League title in 2012.

Across two spells, the Ivorian netted 164 goals, won four Premier League titles, and became the blueprint for the modern, lone striker at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea’s striker issues are a big concern

Joao Pedro’s recent form has hit a noticeable slump at a critical time for Chelsea. After a strong start to the season following his move from Brighton, the Brazilian has struggled for consistency in the final third.

In contrast, Liam Delap has found opportunities limited despite the Blues’ general struggles. Since joining from Ipswich Town, the young striker has managed only one Premier League goal in 1,008 minutes of action, often finding himself confined to the bench as an unused substitute.

However, it could be a sign of the current times at Chelsea, with not one player standing out above the rest. It’s a club that is in need of a major refresh.
