Estêvão’s World Cup dream looks to be over, with the young winger reportedly excluded from Brazil provisional squad. Manager Carlo Ancelotti will announce the final 26-man squad next week, but Estêvão’s already absent from the provisional list published by [Globo Esporte](https://ge.globo.com/futebol/futebol-internacional/noticia/2026/05/12/copa-do-mundo-veja-os-jogadores-que-estao-na-pre-lista-da-selecao-brasileira.ghtml) today.
The list does include current Chelsea players João Pedro and Andrey Santos, as well as former Chelsea hero Thiago Silva (still at age 41!). JP is surely a lock to make the final squad while Santos and Silva are probably on the bubble right now. I’d take both of them in a heartbeat of course.
For young Steve-o, the decision is certainly a blow, but it was hardly unexpected after he suffered a severe hamstring strain a couple weeks ago. He’s tried everything in his power to recover from it quickly, but that was always going to be a losing battle. Best to focus on recovering fully in time for next season, as given the severity, that’s not certain to happen either.
