The Barcelona star (and Frankfurt’s Hugo Larsson) will miss this summer’s tournament and Potter says it was a tough call to make.
“It has been an incredibly tough decision to make. It is not something I have taken lightly, picking a squad for the World Cup. As a person and as a father, I know how tough it is to leave players out,” he told reporters.
“My decisions are based on a few things. I don’t have all the answers. There are always different ways of looking at things. From a competitive perspective, there are others who are ahead, right now.
“It’s also about us being 26 players who are going on a trip, about how to manage time away from each other, how we act and different profiles based on age and experience. I love both of those guys. They have super exciting careers ahead of them. I may be wrong, but I have to make a decision.”
