'Nailed on' - £60m-rated Liverpool & Everton transfer target already agreed to join Newcastle…

Newcastle United: The Magpies have once again been linked with a long-term transfer target.

Newcastle United are one of three clubs reportedly interested in signing West Ham United winger Jarrod Bowen this summer.

The Hammers are currently in the relegation zone with two games left in the Premier League season and are set to visit St James’ Park this Sunday in a match that will prove crucial in the relegation battle. Bowen is likely to line-up against the Magpies this weekend.

But the Daily Mail reports that Bowen could leave West Ham this summer regardless of whether they are relegated or not.

Three Premier League clubs interested in West Ham skipper

Liverpool have been labelled ‘strong contenders’ for Bowen’s signature this summer while Newcastle’s reported interest comes on the back of Anthony Gordon’s anticipated exit.

Everton are the third club credited with an interest in the West Ham and England winger. Toffees’ boss David Moyes previously signed Bowen for £22million from Hull City during his time as West Ham manager.

The report adds that the 29-year-old winger could cost less than £60million. Despite West Ham’s inconsistencies in recent seasons, Bowen has proven himself a key player in the side with 84 goals in 278 appearances.

His highlight in claret and blue came in 2023 under Moyes as he scored the winning goal in the Europa Conference League final over Fiorentina.

Jarrod Bowen previously agreed to join Newcastle United

Newcastle have had a long-standing interest in Bowen which stems from his time at Hull City. The winger previously agreed to join Newcastle only for former owner Mike Ashley to pull the plug on the deal.

He ended up joining West Ham instead and the rest his history.

Reflecting on the failed transfer, Bowen told the Premier League’s YouTube channel. back in 2023: “So it was deadline day and I had nothing. I thought I was going to Newcastle because Steve Bruce was there.

“I was looking for houses and everything, I thought it was nailed on. They said they’re not paying the money, and I thought I would stay at Hull.

“It was £14m with £6m in add-ons and one of those was for an England call-up, and I thought that would never happen. I went to training and thought I was staying at Hull, but the manager pulled me and said ‘what are you doing here, we’ve accepted a bid from West Ham.’ I didn’t even know they were interested.”

Bowen has since established himself in the England squad, triggering the add-on clause due to Hull.

And Bruce, who signed Bowen for Hull from Hereford United, was keen to reunite with the promising youngster at the time.

“The big one I missed on at Newcastle was Jarrod Bowen who we’d actually signed at Hull from Hereford United for about £50,000,” Bruce told the Die For Three Points podcast. “I watched him come through, great kid.

“I had him parked in the service station on the M1 waiting to see if we had the permission, to see if I could scramble the funds to make it happen but I couldn’t get the money together and he went to West Ham instead.”
