Tim Iroegbunam has played 27 Premier League games this season for Everton.
The midfielder won the player of the match against Manchester City.
Iroegbunam has hailed Everton fans for their support.
Tim Iroegbunam has seized his chance in recent weeks. With Idrissa Gana Gueye sidelined through injury, the 22‑year‑old midfielder has stepped into the starting line‑up and impressed. He played against both Manchester City and Crystal Palace, earning the Player of the Match award against Pep Guardiola’s side.
As Everton prepare for their final two Premier League games, Iroegbunam is determined to keep delivering.
Tim Iroegbunam: ‘I just try to do my best’
Reflecting on his past two performances, Iroegbunam spoke about the confidence that comes with regular game time. “Obviously, the more you play, the more confidence you get, so I’m just happy to give it all and do my best.
“Because Gana’s been injured, I’ve had an opportunity, and when I get those opportunities, I just try to do my best and bring a different side to my game so that I can affect the match how I like to do: be aggressive, win the ball back, carry the ball forward.
“With the performance against City, I feel like just the more you play, you get more confidence. I feel that’s the thing with everyone. Hopefully, I just keep stepping on and keep playing well and keep working hard so that I can give it all for this team and do what I can do.”
‘The fans are there, getting behind us’, Iroegbunam hails Everton fans
Iroegbunam also touched on the connection between the squad and the Everton supporters. “You can tell how much the fans love the Club. Every time we play at home, the fans are there, getting behind us. I think it’s important for us to give them a performance. So, yes, it’s definitely an important game.”
This season, Iroegbunam has made 27 appearances for Everton, starting 15 of them. He has played a total of 1,348 minutes, averaging 50 minutes per game, and has contributed two assists. His energy, aggression and willingness to carry the ball forward in the recent games have added a different dimension to Everton’s midfield shuffle.
With two games remaining, Sunderland at home and Tottenham away, Everton’s European hopes are still alive but very difficult. Iroegbunam’s late emergence could be a key factor. As he said, the more you play, the more confidence you get. And confidence is exactly what Everton need right now.
