Blow for Arne Slot – Liverpool right-hand-man lined up for technical direction role

Liverpool assistant manager Giovanni van Bronckhorst is being considered by Feyenoord to join their Supervisory Board.

1908.nl report exclusive information that the Liverpool coach is very much on the agenda at his former club as they look to make sweeping changes this summer.

Feyenoord want Liverpool coach

They report that Giovanni van Bronckhorst is being ‘explicitly considered’ to fill a position left by the departure of Sjaak Troost. The Dutch club believe that he would add ‘football expertise’ to the supervisory body.

Troost resigned in February and has not been replaced since. The former defender had served as a commissioner on the board for seven years. Now there is a fifth seat needing to be filled and Liverpool’s coach is on the list.

Van Bronckhorst has also been linked with a possible technical role at the club. Such a possibility remains, but it would likely be a position as a technical manager supporting the technical director. They have not been appointed as yet, though.

According to insiders at the club, Van Bronckhorst wants a role away from ‘daily spotlight’. He would prefer to work in the background. Both roles, the technical advisor or on the Supervisory Board, would allow him to do this.

Van Bronckhorst open to talks

De Telegraaf, via FR12.nl, also have information on the Liverpool coach. The newspaper reports that he is aware of the ‘concrete interest’ from Feyenoord this summer.

He is focused on Liverpool for the time being and the end of the season. But crucially, he is also open to talks regarding a return to the Netherlands and Feyenoord.

He first, though, would want clarity on the club’s future plans and sporting direction before taking up a position. They would presumably be made clear during any talks, which are yet to be held.

The fact he is open to the talks, though, have opened the door for Feyenoord. With them considering their former star for several positions, it appears they will happen with the Liverpool coach sooner rather than later.
