Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been confirmed to take on a new role in soccer with the local side Marine.
He will be an advisor to the National League North outfit in the north of the city. Marine has enjoyed a rapid progression over the last five years, including two promotions. It has made the most of a historic FA Cup third-round tie against Jose Mourinho's Tottenham, which brought a cash injection, and is seeking to continue an upward trajectory.
Carragher, a Crosby resident who made 737 appearances for Liverpool, has since established himself as one of soccer's leading pundits and will assist sixth-tier Marine in a variety of ways.

"This is a brilliant moment for Marine Football Club," CEO James Leary said. "Jamie is someone who genuinely cares about football and the local community, and he’s followed closely what we’ve been building here over the last few years.
"His experience and relationships will be a huge help to the club as we continue moving Marine forward over the coming years."
"Marine is a proper community football club with good people involved and a clear vision for where it wants to go," Carragher added.

"I’ve enjoyed watching the progress the club has made over recent years, and I’m pleased to be able to support the club in an advisory capacity going forward."
Marine is looking to progress again in the coming seasons. It has secured an option on land for a new stadium development, with a full planning application expected to be submitted to Sefton Council by September.
Earlier this week, Carragher offered his take on Arne Slot's future at Liverpool on Monday Night Football. With Xabi Alonso out of work and being linked with Chelsea, the speculation about what the Reds should do continues.
"I don’t even think it’s a 50/50 split now on Slot," Carragher said. "I know people outside of the club can’t quite get their heads around that, thinking ‘this guy won the league, it looks like he’s going to get you Champions League football in his second season.’

"But the drop-off has been so stark, and there’s been no improvement really from day one until the end of the season, in results or performances that you think ‘is it going to get any better?’
"My worry with Liverpool and Slot a little bit is are we going to be in a situation where, a little bit like Ten Hag, where he had a great first season, didn’t win the league, Slot won the league so that’s a completely different level, but the second season was really poor.
"Then you keep the manager on the back of what he did in his first season, and then it carries on poorly. Then you get into October and you think ‘we’ve got to change the manager’.

"I think that’s probably a little bit of a feeling with Liverpool supporters, but it looks from the things we’re hearing that Arne Slot’s going to be given another opportunity next season."
