At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit Jamie Carragher has been announced as an advisor to non-league club Marine, bringing a significant profile to the Crosby-based side.
Marine, who finished 12th in the National League North during the 2025-26 season, have enjoyed a period of notable success. This includes securing promotions in both 2022 and 2024, as well as a memorable FA Cup third-round tie against Tottenham and a run to the FA Trophy semi-finals.
Carragher, a resident of Crosby, expressed his enthusiasm for the role, stating: "Marine is a proper community football club with good people involved and a clear vision for where it wants to go.
“I’ve enjoyed watching the progress the club has made over recent years and I’m pleased to be able to support the club in an advisory capacity going forward."

The club is currently planning the construction of a new stadium as part of its continued growth.
Chief executive James Leary welcomed the appointment, remarking: "This is a brilliant moment for Marine Football Club. Jamie is someone who genuinely cares about football and the local community, and he’s followed closely what we’ve been building here over the last few years.
“His experience and relationships will be a huge help to the club as we continue moving Marine forward over the coming years."
Carragher called time on his playing career in 2013 after making 737 appearances for Liverpool. During his time at Anfield, he won the Champions League, two FA Cups, three League Cups and the Uefa Cup.
He has since moved into punditry, becoming one of the faces of Sky Sports’ football coverage alongside Gary Neville.
Carragher has also increased his profile in the US by working as a pundit for CBS Sports on their Champions League coverage with Thierry Henry, Micah Richards and presenter Kate Scott.
