Liverpool could look to sign£43.4m striker who's been compared to Harry Kane and Erling Haaland

Liverpool are among a number of clubs who are reportedly able to trigger Borussia Dortmund striker Serhou Guirassy’s £43.4m release clause this summer.

At the start of this season, everything looked rosy in the Reds’ attack, with Mohamed Salah looking to back up his PFA Player of the Year award-winning campaign, and Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike arriving as big-money signings.

Liverpool have toiled in that area, however, due to Salah’s huge dropoff and injuries to the new pair, and another striker will surely be looked at in the summer transfer window.

According to Sky Germany, Guirassy is eyeing a move away from Dortmund at the end of the season, following a two-year stint with Bundesliga giants.

The 30-year-old has a £43.4m release clause that can be triggered by Liverpool, with the same applying to Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United and Arsenal.

It remains to be seen if the Reds will actually make a move for Guirassy, but there is likely to be a battle to snap him up, given his prolific nature.

Does Serhou Guirassy to Liverpool make sense?

Guirassy is a striker whose reputation has skyrocketed in recent years, with Dortmund manager Niko Kovac even comparing him to Harry Kane and Erling Haaland, in terms of importance:

“I’ve used the term ‘life insurance’ several times myself. Serhou is a very important player for us. Someone who scores goals – even in impossible situations. He was under pressure for the first goal, was saved, and yet he still scored. Top striker! Bayern has Kane, City has Haaland and we have Guirassy.”

Despite Guirassy’s impressive recent record – he has scored 59 goals in 95 appearances for Dortmund – the fact that he is now 30 works against Liverpool signing him.

The Reds need to look at a younger option who can be a strong backup to Isak in the long-term absence of Ekitike, rather than a player whose best years may suddenly pass quickly, especially when moving to the Premier League.

That’s nothing against Guirassy’s ability, but signing him would feel risky at a time when Liverpool have to nail their summer transfer business.
