Xabi Alonso has three‘dream’ managerial jobs, and Chelsea aren’t one of them

Despite Xabi Alonso being Chelsea’s favoured candidate for the vacant managerial role, the Blues are not among the three clubs he has dreamed of managing.

Alonso has cropped up near the top of the list for Chelsea’s new permanent manager when Calum McFarlane’s interim time comes to an end.

Chelsea chiefs have been impressed by Alonso during early talks, and as of yet he has not walked away from the prospect of managing at Stamford Bridge.

Xabi Alonso’s three dream jobs revealed amid Chelsea links

Managing the Blues would see Alonso coming up against Liverpool, the side who he played for and won the Champions League with in 2005.

Sky Sports‘ Kaveh Solhekol has reported that the Spaniard has three dream jobs, with the Reds being one of those, alongside Bayern Munich and Real Madrid, who he departed earlier this season.

He said: “In football, it’s an open secret that his dream job is to manage Liverpool after having left Real Madrid, which was another dream job, and probably Bayern Munich, which is another dream job. But the Bayern Munich job is not available.

“The Liverpool job is not available. Even though Liverpool have had a disappointing underwhelming season, some of the fans are unhappy with Arne Slot. Liverpool owners at the moment are planning to stick with Arne Slot.”

Liverpool’s current desire to stick with Arne Slot should kick Chelsea into gear to get this appointment over the line, even if it means giving up some of the control they have held when former managers have been at the helm.

Alonso’s early demands from Chelsea

While early talks have been positive, they have not been without the potential new manager making demands over what they would walk into.

Alonso wants Chelsea to bring in two new centre-backs, potentially hinting the formation that he would want to play at Stamford Bridge.

The Spaniard has utilised a back three during his time at Bayer Leverkusen, and may look to do the same if he takes over in West London.

The Blues have Levi Colwill to build around, and interestingly featured with a back three in their recent draw against Liverpool.
