Ashley Cole has divided Cesena owners as Chelsea legend’s future is confirmed

Chelsea legend Ashley Cole has not enjoyed the perfect start to life in senior management, although his future is safe as Cesena boss for the upcoming season.

Ashley Cole took over at the Serie B side in April after working alongside the Chelsea academy, as well as assistant roles at Everton and Derby County to Frank Lampard.

Cole won his second game in charge, however has not been victorious since as they dwindle in the mid-table places in the second tier of Italian football.

Ashley Cole to remain Cesena manager despite board concern

Even bringing former Chelsea coach Jack Mesure with him to Cesena has not seen an immediate turnaround in results, although he has been handed some clarity regarding his future in charge.

According to TuttoMercatoWeb, Cole is set to remain in charge of the club for next season, despite a run of just one win in eight games.

The report goes on to say that Mike Melby, one of the chairmen at Cesena, is less than convinced that Cole is the right man for the job.

Supporters of the Serie B side have made their dissatisfaction known too, loudly booing their team following the most recent defeat to Padova.

Cole reportedly wanted to bring John Terry with him to Italy to make an instant impression, although that did not come off.

Cole looking to emulate Cesc Fabregas

Former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas also started his managerial career in the second division of Italian football with Como.

The Spaniard recently secured European football for the first time in the club’s history, and has emerged as one of the most promising young coaches in the game.

Fabregas is one of the candidates for the Chelsea job, alongside the likes of Xabi Alonso and Andoni Iraola.

Cole would no doubt love to follow in his former teammate’s footsteps, and looks like he will be given the backing for another season at Cesena.
