GLADEWATER, Texas — Former professional athletes gathered at Tempest Golf Club to raise funds for the Texas Warriors Softball Team.
Eugene Lockhart, a former Cowboys linebacker, Jeff Frye, a former Rangers second baseman, Jose Canseco, a former Oakland A’s player, and Kenny Gant, a two-time Cowboys Super Bowl champion, were among the participants. Other former athletes in attendance included Warren Moon and David Givens.
“It’s a great opportunity to help out these girls. These girls are doing an awesome job every single year man. And all the sponsors and all these East Texas people to have the athletes travel so far man. It just shows you that God is really in the work of giving back for the illness of the things that we do,” Lockhart said.
Frye said the event was about giving back.
“We were blessed to get to live a dream while playing profession sports. Being paid to play a sport, so I think it’s our duty to get back,” Frye said.
Lockhart said all of the charity work is done for the children.
“For the kids, man, for kids back in Dallas I do a lot for the kids in Dallas.”
Frye said he enjoys golf and the opportunity to see former athletes he has not seen in years.
