(KEYC) - The Minnesota Vikings are heading south of the border.
The NFL announced Wednesday that the Vikings will face the San Francisco 49ers at Estadio Banorte in Mexico during Week 11 of the 2026 season. The game will air on NBC’s Sunday Night Football.
It marks the first time in franchise history the Vikings will play in Mexico.
The 49ers, who were named the home team in February, are no strangers to playing in Mexico. San Francisco made NFL history on Oct. 2, 2005, when it played the Arizona Cardinals in the league’s first regular-season game in Mexico — a 31-14 Cardinals win in front of 103,467 fans. The two teams met again in Mexico on Nov. 21, 2022, with the Niners winning 38-10.
The 2026 game is part of a record nine international games scheduled across four continents, seven countries, and eight stadiums.
For the Vikings, it will be their seventh regular-season international game and 11th overall, including four preseason contests. Minnesota holds a 5-1 record in regular-season international play and is a perfect 4-0 in exhibition games abroad.
The Vikings made history in 2025, becoming the first NFL team to play consecutive international games in different countries — falling to the Pittsburgh Steelers in Ireland before rallying past the Cleveland Browns in the United Kingdom.
Minnesota’s full 2026 schedule will be released Thursday, May 14 at 6:30 p.m.
