Vikings to play 49ers in 2026 NFL Mexico Game

MEXICO CITY, Mexico (KARE11) - The Minnesota Vikings are embarking on a new border battle in the south — _way_ south.

For the first time in franchise history, the team will play the 2026 Mexico Game, taking on the San Francisco 49ers at Mexico City’s Estadio Banorte. The game takes place during Week 11, on Sunday, Nov. 22, with kickoff scheduled for 7:20 p.m. CT.

“We look forward to welcoming the Minnesota Vikings and San Francisco 49ers to Mexico City to play in what will be an historic return to the Estadio Banorte in November,” said NFL Director General Arturo Olive, in a statement Wednesday.

“Both the Vikings and 49ers are popular NFL franchises here in Mexico, with significant fanbases. We are excited to create an incredible gameday experience for our fans here, while continuing to build the NFL’s presence across the 2026 season and beyond.”

The Vikings said this is the NFL’s sixth regular-season game to be held in Mexico since 2005, and the first since 2022. The Vikings-49ers matchup is one of nine games next season to be played abroad, with other games scheduled for destinations including Melbourne (Australia), Rio de Janeiro (Brazil), London (U.K.), Paris (France), Madrid (Spain), Munich (Germany) and Mexico City (Mexico).

Last season, the Vikes played back-to-back international games, landing the first-ever NFL game in Dublin, Ireland, against the Pittsburgh Steelers, followed by a stopover in London for a match-up with the Cleveland Browns.

The NFL is expected to drop each team’s full regular-season schedule on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
