“Van Dijk has indicated” – Liverpool captain makes transfer stance clear

Virgil van Dijk has indicated he is willing to join Galatasaray on a free transfer this summer, should he leave Liverpool.

Haber Sarikimizi report comments from Galatasaray reporter Arda Özkurt today regarding a potential move for the Liverpool captain.

Van Dijk leaving Liverpool?

Reports over the last few weeks have heavily linked Virgil van Dijk with a potential move to the Turkish giants this summer.

The Dutch defender is set to enter the final year of his contract at Anfield, and that’s seen as an opportunity by Galatasaray.

There is a growing belief that in a summer of change of Merseyside, where Mohamed Salah and Andy Robertson are already departing, Van Dijk could also be on the way out.

Galatasaray are certainly making moves behind the scenes. Sport Witness covered an initial report earlier this month stating that they’d match the defender’s €11m a year wages at Liverpool.

A second report then stated that contacts had been accelerated after Van Dijk offered Galatasaray encouragement. A report yesterday then stated that negotiations were ongoing with the Liverpool defender.

Van Dijk’s agent in Türkiye

Now Arda Özkurt adds his information to the mix. He insists that a representative for Van Dijk has already been in Türkiye.

“A representative from Virgil van Dijk’s management company was at Rams Park for the championship match,” he said.

“Virgil van Dijk has indicated that he is willing to leave for Galatasaray on a free transfer, but Liverpool’s stance will be decisive. Virgil van Dijk wants a 3-year contract with Galatasaray, consisting of 2+1 years (with a one-year extension if he plays a certain number of matches).”

The question is whether Liverpool let the defender leave on a free transfer this summer. It would be a major decision at Anfield to do so.

They came to an agreement with Mohamed Salah this year on similar terms. But that was largely due to the Egyptian’s very clear falling out with the management. Van Dijk has shown no such displeasure. Nor has he been public with any unhappiness either.

There is no smoke without fire, though. And these repeated reports from Türkiye indicate that something is going on behind the scenes.
