NASHVILLE, Tenn. (WSMV) - Months after the January winter storm swept through Middle Tennessee, volunteers are still helping families recover from the damage left behind.
On Wednesday morning, volunteers with the Tennessee Titans teamed up with Hands On Nashville to help clear tree limbs and storm debris from homes in Northwest Nashville.
Organizers said the winter storm created an overwhelming need for cleanup assistance across the area.

“The scale of the storm has been immense,” said Mary Martin, from Hands On Nashville. “It’s hard to believe, with the sun shining and gorgeous weather, the impact of an ice storm that was several months ago, but we still have about 800 homes that really need help cleaning up.”
Martin said Hands On Nashville received about 2,400 requests for cleanup help following the storm.
“In an average kind of disaster that we’ve typically responded to, like a tornado or a flood, we see about 500 to 600,” Martin said. “So this storm impact was really incredible, and we’re just so grateful for our volunteers.”
Martin said many of the families still needing help include older adults, people with physical challenges and homeowners who cannot afford the high cost of debris removal.

“So grateful for the Titans for rolling up their sleeves, coming out and helping about eight to 10 different homes that really need that support,” Martin said. “So we’re so incredibly grateful for the volunteers who continue to come out and lend a hand.”
Volunteers spent the morning hauling debris and tree limbs to the curb so they can later be picked up by the city.
Hands On Nashville said it is still looking for volunteers to help with cleanup efforts.
“Please visit HON.org. We are running volunteer events every Saturday, and we really do need more hands, more hands make light work.”
Families needing assistance are encouraged to call 211 to be connected with available resources.
