There is usually extra spice when a player faces his former team. Trash talk ramps up. It has been termed as a game of revenge, but not by New England Patriots wide receiver Romeo Doubs, who doesn’t want any such talk to be associated with his first encounter with the Green Bay Packers.
While speaking at the Patriots’ offseason workout program held on May 12, 2026, Doubs made it amply clear that there’s absolutely no ill feeling towards the Packers team. Rather than marking the game in his calendar as revenge, the Packers’ former receiver thanked the Packers organization for making him the man he is today.

Doubs started his career playing for the Green Bay Packers after being drafted in the fourth round of the 2022 NFL draft from the University of Nevada. In this time frame, he became a dependable receiver, garnering 202 receptions, 2,424 receiving yards, and 21 touchdowns in 59 games played. The year he recorded his career-best statistics was 2025, which saw him record 55 receptions and 724 receiving yards.
This year, Doubs decided to sign a four-year, $68M deal with the Patriots after becoming an unrestricted free agent. This is thanks to the scheduling system used by the NFL, and it guarantees a game at Gillette Stadium against his former team this season. However, Doubs completely rejected that angle while speaking to reporters, according to multiple Patriots beat writers and local reports.
“Nah man. Green Bay took care of me. There’s no reason for me to have that level of pressure against them.”

Rather than coming across as resentful, Doubs was very appreciative of what he learned at his former organization. The Packers coaching staff and locker room is where he first came to understand the mind game of playing professional football.
That maturity stands out even more considering Doubs now enters a much bigger role in the Patriots. With young QB Drake Maye leading the offense, Doubs is expected to become one of the Patriots’ top targets under offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels.
Though he admits that learning the terminology for the offense at New England has not been easy since terms used by his former team, the Packers, differ, he noted that it has been relatively easy due to the assistance provided by teammates such as DeMario Douglas.
He also had plenty of praise for Maye, calling the second-year QB “all about ball” and praising both his energy and leadership during offseason workouts.
And right now, Doubs is not focused on revenge narratives, schedule rumors, or proving Green Bay wrong. He has focused on learning the playbook, building chemistry, and helping New England climb back into AFC relevance, and judging by his comments, the Packers will always have his respect.
