Anthony Gordon looks to be edging closer to a transfer to Bayern Munich, although the German champions may have left the door open for Liverpool to hijack the deal

Liverpool might still have an opportunity to sign Anthony Gordon this summer, despite the Newcastle winger seemingly edging closer to a move to Bayern Munich.
Gordon has been linked with a move for Anfield for around two years now, with the Reds having been close to striking a deal for him back in the summer of 2024. The transfer eventually fell through after Newcastle wanted Jarell Quansah to move in the opposite direction as part of the negotiation.
Rumors have followed Gordon since though, and the 25-year-old - who is a Liverpool fan and was at the club’s academy as a youngster - has dropped plenty of hints that he would be keen on a return to Merseyside.

He has been touted as a potential replacement for the outgoing Mohamed Salah, and he does look set to be on the move this summer - it’s Bayern Munich that appears to be leading the charge for his signature though.
Claims that Gordon will be heading to the Bundesliga giants have gained momentum this week, although it seems there might still be a way for Liverpool to hijack the deal.
BILD’s Bayern Munich reporter Heiko Niederrer has told Chronicle Live that Gordon is the German champion’s main target this summer, but there is some discrepancy between it and Newcastle on the winger’s value.

The Magpies are said to want around $94 million (€80M), but Bayern only values him at $70 million (€60M), which Niederrer admits could pose a problem.
It’s confirmed that Bayern can afford to pay more, but there is a debate inside the Allianz Arena about whether Gordon will start enough games to justify breaking the club’s “internal line” on transfer fees and wage structure.
"I mean, of course, everybody knows Bayern can afford to pay more," Niederrer explains. "But they have for a longer time a little bit of a discussion if they pay too much on fees and wages.
"So they want to cut that down a little bit. They have an internal line. If they pay a lot of money for one player, it has to be like a top, top, top, top player who's directly helping them like Harry Kane.

"So their mindset is it's no problem to pay €100million for Harry Kane once every two or three years. But they want to stop spending too much money on bench players. I think that's the discussion they are having. They don't see him directly as a clear starter."
The Chronicle names Liverpool and Arsenal as two other sides holding interest in Gordon, and suggests that Newcastle will have to decide whether to hold out for a Premier League club to pay more towards its valuation, or sell to a club abroad in order to avoid offloading him to a direct rival.
Liverpool.com says: Going after Gordon makes a lot of sense for Liverpool, considering he has played across the front three for Newcastle. With Mohamed Salah leaving and Hugo Ekitike out for the start of next season, he would be an extremely handy option.

And of course, you’d imagine Gordon himself would be keen on a return to Anfield. The problem is Newcastle probably won’t be, especially after the Alexander Isak saga last year.
