Dolphins OC offers superb Malik Willis scouting report

The Miami Dolphins took a huge gamble to sign Malik Willis to the contract that they did, plus to have him as the starter when he's only had a handful in his career.

So, there are a lot of unknowns about what Willis can actually do for the Dolphins, but this offseason will be key to laying a solid foundation for the young quarterback.

His offensive coordinator, Bobby Slowik, has gotten to know Willis over the past few months, and as Miami dives deeper into its offseason, the OC has been left rather impressed by Willis, both the player and person.

"[He] can spin the ball all over the field, can throw the ball everywhere, can run, obviously, can use his legs," Slowik said via NFL.com. "He's tough, but honestly, what I've enjoyed the most so far is getting to know him. The person is really fun to be around. He's really energetic. He infuses everybody with a lot of energy."

Can Willis be "the" guy for Miami?

Eventually, that will be the hope, but expecting Willis to do something substantial in 2026 isn't expected.

He's only had six career starts, and is 3-3 in those games, plus he doesn't exactly have the best weapons around him in Jalen Tolbert, Malik Washington, and Tutu Atwell as his receivers.

De'Von Achane is the only real "star" of the offense that Willis has to work with, so how Slowik gets the most out of his offense is going to be interesting.

But Willis will be the centerpiece to it all, and yes, the Dolphins have taken a huge gamble on Willis, but it's one that might pay off.
