De’Von Achane signing 4-year, $68 million extension contract with Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins teased a De'Von Achane extension before the 2026 NFL Draft. Now the franchise has assured he'll be a part of the new regime under Jeff Hafley.

Achane signed a new four-year, $68 million extension contract to remain in South Beach. NFL insider for Fox Sports Jordan Schultz revealed the move Wednesday evening, which also impacts the running back market.

Schultz says Achane's extension officially makes him the league's third-highest paid RB at $17 million per year. Plus Achane will rake in $32 million guaranteed.

This move solidifies that Achane will be the featured back despite Mike McDaniel getting fired after the 2025 season. McDaniel's last Dolphins team never fully recovered from an awful 1-6 start despite a late season push. Miami still finished under .500 at 7-10 overall, costing McDaniel his head coaching role. He's since landed with the Los Angeles Chargers as offensive coordinator.

Achane proved to be a bright spot, though, once again. The veteran gashed defenders with a new career-best 1,350 rushing yards and eight touchdowns through 16 games. The touchdown mark matches his previous best from Achane's rookie season. Achane's 2025 performance earned him his first-ever Pro Bowl nod.

He proved he can impact games on the receiving end too. Achane's caught 172 career passes across his first three seasons with 1,277 yards and 13 touchdowns.

Hafley tabbed Bobby Slowik as the newest Dolphins offensive coordinator. Slowik shares one thing in common with McDaniel, though: He's from the famed Kyle Shanahan coaching tree. He's likely not going to scrap last season's offense entirely especially for the much richer Achane.
