Liverpool could part ways with Alisson Becker this summer amid strong interest from Juventus.
Journalist Ben Jacobs recently reported that the goalkeeper is ‘in talks’ with Juventus, with Alisson described as being ‘open’ to making the move back to Serie A.
Jacobs reported: “Alisson is expected to approach any potential exit in the same manner as Andy Robertson in January. He has an excellent relationship with LFC and is not agitating to leave unless it suits all parties.”
Another report claims that Liverpool are considering Aston Villa’s Emi Martinez to replace him.
David Lynch doesn’t expect Alisson to stay at Liverpool amid Juventus interest
When asked by Anfield Index if Alisson will be at the club next season, David Lynch responded: “Yeah, I’d be surprised at this point. I think there’s just a lot of smoke there.
“I think clearly what’s happening here is that the decision is on the player’s side really, in terms of does he want to move on and try something new or does he want to stick around?”
Alisson has been the best goalkeeper in the Premier League since he made a £66m move to Liverpool from AS Roma, but his exit this summer is not guaranteed.
Lynch continued: “Because he’s under contract, Liverpool will give him the choice of either, as long as their needs in terms of a transfer fee are met.
“The fact that things are clearly advancing on the player’s side says to me that there’s a willingness there to let him go and a willingness on his side to go. So I don’t think Liverpool will stand in his way.”
Liverpool should keep Alisson even if he will share game time with Giorgi Mamardashvili
While Mamardashvili has been undeserving of criticism this season, given the lack of protection his defenders and midfielders have offered, until it’s clear that he will be the ideal heir to Alisson, they should keep the Brazilian.
This season, Alisson has played just 34 games due to injuries.
The 33-year-old has been missing due to four separate issues:
Hamstring injury (October – 50 days)
Illness (November – 4 days)
Hip injury (March – 6 days)
Hamstring injury ( March – 55 days*)
*Ongoing absence.
Although the Brazilian is more injury-prone than most goalkeepers, his ability is such that having him for even 30-odd games per season is well worth it.
Liverpool have the option to renew his contract for another year, and if Alisson is willing to stay, they should exercise it.
