* **Right side of Everton’s defence is one of their weak spots in the starting XI.**
* **Moyes has opted to play centre back, Jake O’Brien, on right of the defence.**
* **But Toffees have been linked with natural right back, Lutsharel Geertruida.**
Everton are set for another busy summer in the transfer market.
David Moyes was able to bring an array of talent into his squad in the last summer window and will look to continue this trend in the coming months.
One area that is in need of attention is the right side of the Toffees’ back four.
[The Blues have already been linked with right backs](https://readeverton.com/ryan-alebiosu-everton-right-back-target/), and another name has cropped up as Moyes seeks to instil a natural full back to the right of his defence.
Jake O’Brien has proven to be solid at right back, however Everton require a player who is naturally accustomed to this position.
Moyes’ side are reportedly eyeing up Lutsharel Geertruida, who is currently on loan at Premier League rivals Sunderland, according to [TEAMtalk](https://www.teamtalk.com/news/leeds-battling-liverpool-lutsharel-geertruida-key-to-20m-deal).
The Dutchman has played in a variety of positions this season, ranging from right back, centre back and a defensive midfielder.
Nordi Mukiele has been the preferred right back on Wearside this season, meaning it is likely that Geertruida will not extend his stay with Regis Le Bris’ side.
Geertruida nearly moved to Liverpool in January, but it fell through as Sunderland could not secure a replacement for the defender.
The 25-year-old is on loan from RB Leipzig, and has featured for the German side in just one campaign, after arriving there from Feyenoord in the summer of 2024.
Some would question why Everton should be going for a right back who has struggled in that very position this season.
Yet the Dutch international has attracted interest from multiple Premier League clubs and others in the top five European divisions.
Geertruida proved his worth in the 2023-24 season, where he was a key man in a season that saw Feyenoord win the KNVB Cup, and the defender bagged eight goals and registered five assists.
In the past couple of seasons, he has not managed to achieve similar stats, but has still proven his worth as an effective player.
Having the ability to play across the back line and slot into midfield is a desirable quality in modern football, and is something Moyes looks for in his crop of players.
Geertruida will likely appear in the Netherlands’ FIFA World Cup squad, so a move for him would likely happen after the competition, but he is certainly a name that would fit this current Everton side.
