Bayern Munich have ramped up their efforts to sign Anthony Gordon in recent weeks.
Danny Murphy has questioned whether Anthony Gordon would get into Bayern Munich’s starting line-up.
Newcastle United have battled mounting speculation over the winger’s future in recent weeks. Gordon has not played since the 2-1 defeat to Crystal Palace on April 12.
He has been an unused substitute for the previous two Premier League fixtures, fuelling suggestions he is heading for the St James’ Park exit. Sky Sports reported last week that Bayern have opened talks with the Magpies about a potential summer swoop.

Danny Murphy questions Anthony Gordon
Speaking to talkSPORT, former Liverpool midfielder Murphy claimed Gordon is not on Luis Diaz’s level and would struggle for game time at the Bundesliga champions. This directly echoes Alan Shearer’s on-air comments when Bayern faced Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League.
“I'm a little surprised,” Murphy said about Gordon potentially joining Bayern. “I mean, I like Anthony Gordon, he's got great strengths and qualities. His consistency is a problem. He's had that wonderful run in Europe this season, but a lot of penalties. This is his highest-scoring season.
“But when you look at where Munich are at, I don't think he threatens the XI. He's not on (Luis) Diaz's level. So from a footballing perspective… Of course, if it does happen, (he will get an) amazing contract. They'll pay him more than he's on at Newcastle. He's going to a club that is more likely to win things.
“They're going to play 60 games, so he'll get games. But he's not on the same level as Luis Diaz. And he's what, four years younger? Three years younger? So unless Munich have got some sort of plans (and) Diaz is off somewhere...
“Ok, he's got confidence in himself, fine. I'm sure he has. He's that type of lad.
But from a footballing perspective, as a player, I'm trying to look at it from his point of view other than the financial gain, you're going to be sitting on the bench.”
Simon Jordan on Newcastle United
Ex-Crystal Palace owner Simon Jordan does not understand why Newcastle would consider selling their best players. He said: “In order for Newcastle to be an elite football club, they need top, top players. And they're not going to get top, top players any more than Aston Villa are.
“They're not going to get top, top players. The top, top players are going to go to the legacy football clubs like Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester City. And that is the problem that Newcastle have.
“In what point of view are we trying to say it (selling best players) makes sense? If you don't need the money and you're trying to build a team to be successful, it makes no sense. But if you don't need the money and you're trying to build a team to be successful, you're not going to build a successful team by selling your best players.”
