Liverpool told to complete £43m signing they want before World Cup, otherwise price will skyrocket

Liverpool are one of the clubs showing serious interest in AS Monaco star Maghnes Akliouche.

Akliouche played his last game for Monaco on Sunday ahead of what could be a key summer in his career.

L’Equipe reports that Liverpool are interested in signing him and teammate Lamine Camara for around £70m. Akliouche alone would cost in the region of €50 million (£43.3m).

The report states: “The Reds have a major overhaul planned for this transfer window, and Akliouche and the prospect of spending around €50 million on the 24-year-old attacking midfielder (under contract until 2028) wouldn’t be a deterrent for them.”

However, football expert Andy Brassel believes this price could skyrocket if Akliouche stars at the upcoming World Cup.

A fee in the region of €50M has been discussed, with Liverpool not deterred by the valuation.

Liverpool urged to complete deal for Akliouche before the World Cup

Speaking about Akliouche on talkSPORT, Brassel said: “I think to have a right-sided lefty with good form now, and huge upside feels a very Liverpool signing, and it feels the sort of signing that Liverpool should be making.

“The only thing I would say is get it over the line before the World Cup, because he’ll be in that World Cup squad because he’s played his way into it over the past four or five months.

“If he has a few good cameos for France, Monaco will whack the price up, it’s fair to say, and also there’s competition for him as well.

“If I was in Liverpool’s position, get it done…get it done yesterday!”

Akliouche would be a wonderful signing

This season, Akliouche has seven goals and 11 assists in 42 appearances for Monaco. It’s no surprise that so many top clubs are interested in the 24-year-old, with Liverpool reportedly one of the keenest.

Liverpool have lacked players who are able to drive past their marker with ease, and Akliouche excels in this area. While not the fastest, his control and agility allow him to breeze past players as if they’re not there.

In terms of output, his 18 goal contributions might suffer a bit in the Premier League, where it’s considerably harder to find the back of the net compared to Ligue 1. The World Cup will be a good testing ground for whether or not he can do it at the highest level, but if Liverpool follow Brassel’s advice, they can get the deal done before his stock rises to unrealistic levels.
