£30m Chelsea star now expected to be in 26-man squad for the World Cup

Chelsea will have a plethora of players on display at the upcoming World Cup in North America, and it looks as if one of those who will be confirmed to be there is Malo Gusto.

The likes of Reece James, Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo are expected to be starters for their nation, and will play a key part in their side’s chances of winning the tournament.

There has been heartbreak for Estevao Willian as he will miss the competition due to a serious hamstring injury suffered in the Premier League defeat to Manchester City.

Malo Gusto expected to be selected for the World Cup for France

Malo Gusto has nine appearances for the France national team under his belt after making his debut in 2023.

His move to Stamford Bridge has boosted his international prospects massively, with him becoming a key part of the Chelsea side as James continues to suffer with injury issues.

It looks as if this has played a part in Didier Deschamps’ thinking ahead of the World Cup, with RMCSport reporting that the Blues right-back is expected to be named in the final France squad.

This is despite the nations only being at the stage where they submit a 55-man squad before narrowing it down, but Gusto has been in the squad for the last 10 France games.

He is set to be competing with Barcelona’s Jules Kounde for a place in the starting side, after his shift to the right from the centre of defence.

Gusto set for Chelsea showdown at the World Cup

France have been drawn in what many seen as the group of death alongside Senegal and Norway, as well as Iraq.

Their first game against the African Cup of Nations finalists will see him face up against a number of Chelsea players.

Nicolas Jackson and Mamadou Sarr are set to play key roles for their nations this summer, and will be looking for a shock result in their opening game of the tournament.

France have genuine ambitions of winning the competition, but aren’t predicted to have any other Chelsea representatives in the squad. This means that Wesley Fofana, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi will not be present in North America.
