Chelsea will be keen to end their season with silverware as they prepare to take on Manchester City in the FA Cup final. Regardless of the result at Wembley this Saturday, the Blues are expected to head into the summer transfer window with the intent to strengthen.
Chelsea are expected to make a number of changes to their squad. Defence will undoubtedly be one of their key areas, which will need some restructuring as soon as possible.
Since the departure of Thiago Silva and Antonio Rudiger, the Blues’ backline has looked mediocre at best. The club management decided to bring in more youngsters, aligning with BlueCo’s vision of building a team for the future.
Chelsea player wants to leave but will it happen?
With Levi Colwill’s long-term absence this season, Chelsea’s defence has been largely subpar as they have conceded 67 goals in total across the Premier League and Champions League so far this season.
The expectation is for the club to look to reconstruct their defensive lineup going into next season. Both new additions and probable departures are expected.
Now as it stands, two BlueCo signings, Benoit Badiashile and Axel Disasi, seem to be heading for the exit door. More so in the case of the latter, whose departure could be only a matter of time.
According to Football Insider, Disasi is keen to sign a permanent deal at West Ham United. But any move will hinge on them staying up in the Premier League. Leeds United are also believed to be interested in him.
Where did it go wrong for Axel Disasi at Chelsea?
The 28-year-old was brought in to the side during the summer of 2023 for a transfer fee believed to be around €45 million from French side AS Monaco. He was one of the players Mauricio Pochettino had a say in signing.
But with the appointment of Enzo Maresca in 2024, Disasi’s importance in the team decreased and eventually, it became clear that he did not have a long-term future at Chelsea.
Disasi’s performances were not up to the mark as he started committing errors which led to goals during important matches. The French defender ultimately got sidelined under Maresca for a major portion of his time at Stamford Bridge.
What does the future look like for Disasi?
Disasi now has been juggling through loan moves for the past couple of seasons, as he was loaned out to Aston Villa at the start of 2025. He is currently at relegation-battling West Ham, where he is seemingly enjoying a successful spell.
Despite the French defender slowly regaining form, the Blues have seemingly made up their mind on letting Disasi go this summer. Leeds United have emerged as potential suitors for the centre-back alongside the Hammers this summer.
If West Ham manage to stay up, it is likely he will sign permanently with them. If they don’t, Disasi’s future would be trickier to predict. But do not expect him to remain a Chelsea player after this season.
