Alonso’s struggles stemmed from a toxic combination of ego-clashes and structural interference. He even attempted to sideline legendary fitness coach Antonio Pintus.
Additionally, senior players like Vinicius Junior reportedly rebelled against his long video sessions and complex pressing triggers, preferring the more hands-off approach of his predecessors.
Given the mess we’ve seen at Chelsea with the controlling nature of the owners and some of the egos on display, it’s going to take a lot of work to avoid a repeat at Stamford Bridge.

Speaking yesterday about Xabi Alonso’s time at Real Madrid, president Florentino Perez stands by his decision to appoint the Spaniard and does not regret it.
“I was NOT wrong to sign Xabi Alonso. It was just a matter of circumstances; we didn’t have a preseason and that made an impact.”
However, the one thing that stands out is the fact that there was a lack of a pre-season, which makes it even more vital for Chelsea to make that appointment.

Chelsea need to move fast and hire Xabi Alonso now so he can actually have a full pre-season. His time in Madrid failed mostly because he was thrown into the fire without time to set up his system.

Plus, the transfer window is opening soon. Having Alonso in charge gives the club a clear plan on who to buy, instead of just signing random players and hoping they fit or come good later down the line.
