Chelsea’s dream of signing Real Madrid star is over if they appoint Xabi Alonso

Liverpool legend Xabi Alonso could become the new Chelsea manager.

Alonso and Chelsea have been in talks as the Blues look to appoint a new head coach after sacking Liam Rosenior last month.

After the magnificent job that the 44-year-old did at Bayer Leverkusen, Chelsea fans would welcome him to Stamford Bridge.

However, the potential arrival of Alonso would end any chance of the Blues signing one player they have been linked with.

CHELSEA PLAYER OF THE SEASON – FINAL!

Chelsea’s slim chances of signing Vinicius Jr will be over if Xabi Alonso arrives

Last month, it was claimed that intermediaries have contacted Chelsea about Vinicius Jr, letting them know that the Real Madrid forward could be available this summer.

Vinicius Jr’s current deal expires next year and he remains in a contract stand-off with his employers.

However, Vinicius Jr did not have the best relationship with Alonso when the Spaniard was Real Madrid boss, making it hard to imagine them working together again.

Vinicius Jr even went on record to say that he could not “connect” with Alonso and what his former manager wanted.

Speaking to TNT Sports and the Spanish media at the beginning of April, he said: “Every coach has their own method, every coach has their things, and I think I wasn’t able to connect with what he [Alonso] wanted and what the team needed.”

Whether Chelsea appoint Alonso or not, Vinicius Jr moving to west London seems highly unlikely. He is a dream signing for the Blues.

Chelsea are not in a position to lure a player of that calibre to Stamford Bridge, while you would expect Real Madrid to eventually agree a new contract with the 25-year-old.

He is one of the squad’s most important members, so Florentino Perez is going to be desperate to keep hold of him.

The old Chelsea who qualified for the Champions League every season and competed for the Premier League title may have had a shot at landing Vinicius Jr. But Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali’s Chelsea have no chance of prising the Brazil international away from the Santiago Bernabeu, especially if Alonso is in charge.
