Hansi Flick’s move to FC Barcelona back in 2024 came out of the blue, with the cash-strapped Catalans pouncing on the opportunity to cheaply secure the former Bayern Munich boss following his dismissal as manager of Germany. The Blaugranas had enjoyed a fairly solid run under former manager Xavi Hernández, but were firmly relegated to the shadow of their bitter rivals Real Madrid after Los Blancos won the Champions League and La Liga double. Barcelona were firmly left in the dust, trailing 10 points behind.
How things have changed under Flick. He recently sealed the 2025/26 La Liga title with Barcelona to win his third trophy in two seasons at Barcelona. Furthermore, he has dominated encounters with Real Madrid, winning all but one of their encounters while thrashing Real by 3 or more goals on more than one occasion. And he did it all with little to no backing in the transfer market.
Understandably, this has earned Flick a new contract that has been all but confirmed by the man himself, as captured by Florian Plettenberg:
Hansi Flick new contract - DONE DEAL.
All agreed as expected. His agent Pini Zahavi has clarified the final details. Flick is set to sign until 2028 + 1 soon. “I will sign a new deal at FC Barcelona,” Flick confirms.
This new contract will extend Flick’s stay in Catalonia past his time in Munich, which lasted just two years despite winning the sextuple with Die Roten. On one hand Bayern fans may wonder what could have been if he had stayed longer, but on the other hand current head coach Vincent Kompany is enjoying quite a bit of success himself.
