Bengals rumors: Why rival execs call Joe Burrow trade chatter total hogwash

With the Cincinnati Bengals missing the playoffs the past two seasons, quarterback Joe Burrow has seen his name come up in trade rumors. However, those around the league believe there's little chance Burrow is actually dealt, via Jeremy Fowler of ESPN.

The quarterback would undoubtedly fetch a king's ransom in the trade market. However, the Bengals want to win, and the want to win with Burrow.

“I just don't see them ever moving him,” an AFC executive said. “I think all of the posturing on his end was to make sure they were doing what they could to make the team better around him. He's still too young and too good for them to move on.”

“If the Bengals have a good season, that will quiet the noise around Burrow,” an AFC scout added. “But even if they don't, I think the talk is just noise.”

If the Bengals are to struggle again, Burrow's name will come up in trade rumors again. While he is under contract through the 2029 season, the quarterback wants to win. If it's clear that isn't happening in Cincinnati, perhaps a divorce may be the only suitable option.

For now though, the Bengals have their eyes set on competing for a playoff spot in 2026. When healthy, their passing attack remains one of the best in the league with receivers Ja'Marr Chase and Tee Higgins. Cincinnati made a massive addition to their defense when they traded for Dexter Lawrence.

If that is enough to win consistently is yet to be seen. Regardless, the Bengals much prefer the version of their team with Burrow under center.
