NFL insider Dianna Russini has covered chaotic trade deadlines, QB drama, and breaking news for years, however, nothing compares to the wild story she recently shared about being interrogated for the Pittsburgh Steelers updates while literally giving birth. This particular incident went viral almost immediately after Russini revealed how her doctor had taken the liberty to start talking about Ben Roethlisberger while she was giving birth.
Russini has been dominating headlines anyway as her personal life has been making people speculate on how she would interact with the New England Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. Yet this recent incident has made people remember the lighter side of football culture as fans saw how her love for the game transcended her life’s most stressful events.

Russini had told the amazing tale during her guest stint on “The Bill Simmons Podcast” on August 4, 2025. Speaking about the birth of her first son, Michael Andrew, Russini said that she gave birth to him very quickly, and the baby was born after only 12 minutes of labor pains. Yet somehow, even in that short window, Steelers talk still entered the conversation.
According to Russini, the doctor delivering her baby suddenly shifted from medical focus to NFL insider mode while she was actively pushing. Instead of calming words or routine delivery-room conversation, he wanted updates on Steelers legend Roethlisberger and whether a comeback could happen.
“You think Ben would ever come back? Like Big Ben.”
Yikes: Former NFL insider Dianna Russini reveals that the doctor who was delivering her baby kept asking if Ben Roethlisberger would return to the Steelers while she was giving birth.

As for Russini, she later recalled that the physician had said that it was deliberate on his part to discuss football as a means of distracting her from her labor pains. Russini, who is a veteran sports reporter covering the NFL, made light of the situation by saying that she got her work done regardless of what transpired.

The story immediately grabbed attention online because it perfectly captured how deeply football culture runs in NFL circles. Even while delivering a baby, Russini somehow found herself caught in the Steelers QB discussion.
Her first son, Michael Andrew, was born on August 7, 2021. Russini later clarified through reports from TMZ that Michael was named after her older brother, not after any NFL personality, despite social media rumors suggesting otherwise. Her second son, Joseph “Joey” Kevin, arrived on October 11, 2022 and was named after her late grandfather.
The viral labor-room story also arrives during a chaotic stretch in Russini’s public life. In the past few months, there have been numerous reports in Page Six and TMZ regarding her affair scandal with Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel. Many photographs and videos allegedly revealed their encounters together in Arizona, New York, and Tennessee, which caused endless speculations from various corners.
TMZ even further intensified the news by revealing that Russini and Mike Vrabel rented a boat together in Tennessee when she was expecting Michael in June 2021. Despite all the headlines generated from the media, no one from either party has come forward and admitted to the affair.
Still, Russini has continued balancing motherhood with the nonstop demands of NFL reporting. She previously called becoming a mom the “highlight” of her life while admitting the unpredictability of breaking NFL news constantly pulls her attention in multiple directions.
Now, thanks to one Steelers-obsessed doctor and a perfectly timed Big Ben question, Russini has added another unforgettable moment to NFL media history.
