The Los Angeles Rams will be the NFL’s second-most-traveled team during the 2026 season, trailing only the rival San Francisco 49ers. While L.A. will rack up plenty of air miles, being well-traveled does not appear to affect a team’s success or playoff chances as much as you might expect.
Last season, the Rams were similarly well-traveled, one of the realities of playing on the West Coast. The team traveled 34,832 miles, only behind their SoFi Stadium roommate. In fact, the Chargers entered the 2025 campaign having earned the honor(?) of traveling the most of any team in back-to-back years. The other L.A. team advanced to the postseason in each of those seasons.
That appears to be a trend, as the top five most well-traveled teams in ’25 all made the playoffs, with mileage totals via NFL Operations:
1.) Chargers (37,086 miles traveled), finished 11-6, lost in Wild Card Round
2.) Rams (34,832 miles traveled), finished 12-5, lost in NFC Championship
3.) Seahawks (31,302 miles traveled), finished 14-3, won Super Bowl
4.) Jaguars (29,006 miles traveled), finished 13-4, lost in Wild Card Round
5.) 49ers (28,363 miles traveled), finished 12-5, lost in Divisional Round
Over the past five years, the NFL’s most-traveled teams have generally fared well during the regular season. The one exception was the 2022 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who finished 8-9 but still managed to win their division.
No team that finished as the most well-traveled since 2021 has missed the playoffs. That is truly a remarkable achievement. Since moving back to Los Angeles, the Rams have always been among the most well-traveled teams, but that hasn’t hindered their success whatsoever. They traveled the fourth-most in ‘21, and things turned out okay for them in February.
Even before Thursday’s NFL schedule release, the Rams will undoubtedly be going coast-to-coast and across the globe this season. All the traveling is nothing that they haven’t experienced before, and given recent history, should not prevent them from making another run at the Super Bowl.
