William Gallas has said what most Chelsea fans have been saying all season about the club’s owners.
Chelsea supporters are far from happy with how Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali have been running things, and Gallas has now joined in with the criticism.

In an interview with Get French Football News, the former Chelsea defender said: “We know the problem with Chelsea: the owner has to manage the club better. The fans are not happy with what is happening at Chelsea.
“We knew the owner was not managing the club in the right way a few years ago. Now they’ve been through multiple managers. They spend money but don’t have anything to show for it. Yes, they won the Club World Cup, but it’s not enough.”
There is no disagreeing with Gallas here. Boehly and Eghbali have done a poor job in charge of the club, and the failure of Liam Rosenior is just one piece of evidence.

However, while Boehly and Eghbali may have the final say as owners, they are not the ones making sporting decisions. That responsibility falls to the sporting directors, who deserve nearly as much criticism as their superiors.
Boehly and Eghbali are not football men. You expect them to make mistakes and not understand everything about the sport at this level.
Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart, on the other hand, should know better. They should have known that assembling such a young and inexperienced Chelsea team was going to have drawbacks.
Chelsea are four years into their project, and it is only now that there is talk of a change in transfer strategy at Stamford Bridge, which should see the arrival of more seasoned footballers.
It is an issue that Winstanley, Stewart and Chelsea’s other 100 sporting directors should have pointed out to the club’s owners ages ago. Gallas is right to call out Boehly and Eghbali, but it does feel like Winstanley and Stewart are getting a bit of an easy ride in comparison.
