SALT LAKE CITY – Less than one month after signing a free agent contract, former BYU kicker Will Ferrin was cut by the New York Jets.
The Jets announced Ferrin’s release on Thursday afternoon, which coincided with New York’s announcement of the signing of former Utah Utes wide receiver Tim Patrick.
Ferrin participated in the Jets’ rookie minicamp from May 8-10.
New York Jets release Will Ferrin
Jets beat writer Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic wrote on X of Ferrin’s release, “Wow, Will Ferrin already released. He did miss a couple FGs at the rookie camp practice we saw him kicking at — but I thought he’d at least get a shot to compete for the job.”
A former transfer from Boise State, Ferrin was BYU’s kicker for the past three seasons. He made 58 of his 71 field goal attempts for an 81.7% accuracy.
Ferrin was a record-setter for BYU football
Ferrin set the BYU record for consecutive PATs made with 120; he didn’t miss a PAT in his final two seasons with the program.
Another program Ferrin set was a consecutive field-goal streak of 25.
He struggled on kicks from 40-49 yards during his senior season in 2025, going 2-of-7, but he still made four of his six attempts from beyond 50 yards. One of his kicks beyond 50 included a 56-yarder, tying the longest in program history.
Ferrin was one of three former BYU players who signed undrafted free agent contracts with the New York Jets this year. The others include cornerback Mory Bamba and long snapper Garrison Grimes.
